Our adventure began with the purchase of a sail boat. I will back up in case you have not been following this blog for long - we all took sailing lessons over the summer so our next step was to buy a sailboat. It was located roughly 90 (driving) miles south of us. The boat can not be trailered so we embarked on our sailing adventure to bring the boat home this past weekend. We figured worst case scenario it would take about 9-10 hours to bring it home and we planned to spent the night in a small creek half way.
The pictures paint the majority of our journey - the great part! I'm not sure I'm up for blogging about the perilous portion yet - maybe by the end.
Crossing under the Bay Bridge.
It was an awesome site to go under the bridge instead of over it.
One of the few times we saw Banana as he spent most of the trip in the cabin reading Harry Potter...what is wrong with you boy.
JonJon and Sarah accompanied us on this quest for peril - I mean adventure :)
Carrot at the helm
How JonJon can nap like this we will never know?
Must have been on a 5 minute break from the reading
Are your eyes ok????
Girl snuggles
Here we are sailing into a beautiful little cove where we anchored for the night. On our way in we saw an Bald Eagle fly down and grab a fish from the water and take off again - awesome to see. There was a marina or two and a little tiki like hut that sold drinks in the summer - super cute area
Chill'n waiting for dinner to cook
Dad is grilling out hot dogs for dinner off the back of the boat
Carrot is always up for a pose so I have about 200 shots of this
Sarah getting some giggles from the book worm
JonJon was not sure he wanted to come until he saw the oatmeal cream pies I bought for the boat ride - hee hee. He is so easily bought with food
After dinner it was getting dark so we all played a fun round of princess yahtzee before we went to bed. During the game we saw some fireworks which was fun and also got to watch the moon rise over the water before bed.
I was "lucky" enough to wake at 6:30 and glance over at Carrot who was just sitting up and staring at me so she and I climbed out to the cockpit and enjoyed the beautiful morning and sunrise.
Cheese danish or donuts???? How about both. Really - who knows what I was doing here but I decided this is a good pose for blog post.
Isn't she beautiful in the morning sunlight
Behind Sarah is a little island where there were various boats anchored near by and a cookout/camping on the beach....looked like fun.
Here we have Carrot coloring and if you look at the pile of pillows to her left....that was Banana's little reading fort. He literally spent 90% of the trip there. It is amazing his eyes still work
Attempted to put up the sail for a bit on the way back not much wind but I have come to realize not much is my kind of wind...I might not be a sailor after all...could be a motor boat kind of girl.
This is probably my last smile of the trip and also where my pictures stopped. I believe JonJon might have taken some of the horrible portion but I am still a little to traumatized to ask for them :)
Now for the bad part of the trip summarized: sailing in too much wind for my liking and too close to the flats pushed us to run aground. Running aground and waiting to be towed delayed us from getting home. Waiting and watching the clouds increase and then making the last portion of the journey in rain and super high winds as darkness fell all around. All of this = a horrified me.
It is quite scary be on the boat in these situations. We were just trying to get home and the bend that looked like what we thought was the last bend took so long to get to. It was slow going but we finally rounded the bend and I could see the yacht club with the binoculars.
I stood at the front of the boat in the rain watching for mooring balls hollering stay left and go right so J could steer the boat safely to the dock. As I struggled to tie the boat to dock two men where walking down the dock and climbed into their boat....thanks so much for the help guys! I came to realize they probably were not members of the club and just needed to dock for the night for safety.
Finally at home after a hot shower it all sort of hit me and I thought I was going to throw up or have a panic attack for a bit. J so kindly offered to sell the boat if I didn't want to get on it again and I will say last night I was thinking we should do JUST THAT but now it is day...and maybe it will be ok to try again.

Sounds SO scary & out of anyone's comfort zone! I love that you did it & just know you'll sail again. Love it! Don't give up :)
